Swim Towards 2005 was launched in 1999 as an initiative of the Upper Parramatta River Catchment Trust. The key objective of the campaign was to achieve swimmable water quality in the Lake. On the 3rd December, 2006, this will become a reality and locals and visitors alike can enjoy a day of swimming and supporting activities, much as residents use to in the 1930s.
This outstanding achievement displays the positive outcomes that can be obtained through effective catchment management. A further positive of this program is the successful partnership of three key organisations to achieve this result Upper Parramatta River Catchment Trust, Parramatta City Council and Baulkham Hills Shire Council.
While the 3rd of December will be a community celebration, it will also be an opportunity for residents, local government and affiliated businesses to farewell the Upper Parramatta River Catchment Trust, which will merge with the Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority at the end of this year. The Trusts achievements will be on display throughout the day.
