Some new faces will be a part of the team to
direct the continuing work of the Upper Parramatta River Catchment
Trust. The newly appointed Trust board met recently met for
the first time since the local government elections in late
March Councillors David Bentham and John Dinnie have been
nominated by Baulkham Hills Shire Council to serve on the
Trust for the new term.
Cr Bentham commented, " The creeks and water ways in
our catchment aren't doing to bad but they still require more
work, to ensure their long term health and to provide a safe
place for the community to enjoy. This job is particularly
important with the added stress of development. I hope that
as a Trustee I can assist in the process."
Cr Dinne added, "I was really happy to accept my position
on the Trust and as a resident from the catchment this will
provide me with a great insight into the work that is performed
by the Trust".
"Storm water in our cities is still an important issue
today as we struggle with more and more housing in our suburbs.
I am really looking forward to representing and serving the
community while im on the Trust and making a worthwhile contribution
during my term".
Bob Junor, Chairman of the Trust, said it was great to have
a Trust with some new faces and fresh ideas.
"I welcome all of the new Trustees to their role within
the Upper Parramatta River Catchment Trust to help direct
its work over the next few years".
Established in 1989 the Trust has worked to reduce flooding,
improve water quality, enhance bushland areas and promote
wiser use of water within the catchment that covers parts
of the Baulkham Hills, Blacktown, Holroyd and Parramatta Council
areas.
Some years ago the Trust worked with Baulkham Hills Council
to build the Loyalty Road Flood Basin on Darling-Mills Creek
in North Rocks. This basin is the largest in NSW and helps
to reduce flooding downstream in Northmead, North Rocks and
Parramatta.
