Some new faces will be a part of the team that
will direct the continued works of the Upper Parramatta River
Catchment Trust. The board of Trustee's recently met for the
first time since the March local government elections. Councillors
Alan Ezzy and Mark Pigram will represent Holroyd City Council
for the next four years, whilst first time appointee Clr Paul
Barber and Clr Maureen Walsh will represent Parramatta City
Council.
Clr Paul Barber said who joins the Trust for the first time
said, "I first heard about the Trust a few years ago
during the 'Drain is Just for Rain' campaign. I was impressed
with the partnership the Trust had, not only with the four
councils, but also the community. I am happy to be involved
with the Trust through my appointment to the board".
Clr Maureen Walsh, who was appointed for a short term last
year and reappointed this year said, "Changes to the
flow of river water in the upper Parramatta River impact on
all areas below the weir. The Trust's move towards environmental
sensitivity, particularly in regards to riparian zones and
bushland adjoining the waterways is a great way forward. I
want to work towards an integration of these aspects with
a focus on future planning for Parramatta".
Bob Junor, Chairman of the Trust, said it was great to have
a new Trust with some new faces and fresh ideas, whilst retaining
the experience and commitment of continuing board members.
"We've got a very effective mix", Mr Junor added.
"I welcome all of the new Trustees to the Upper Parramatta
River Catchment Trust that will direct its work over the next
few years".
Established in 1989 the Trust has worked to reduce flooding,
improve water quality, enhance bushland areas and promote
wiser use of water within the catchment that covers parts
of the Baulkham Hills, Blacktown, Holroyd and Parramatta Council
areas.
