BUSHLAND DAY FOR MORE THAN GREEN THUMBS

20th October 2005

Environment groups in the Shire and Baulkham Hills Shire Council are hosting a Bushland Day on Sunday 10 July.

The event will be held at Ted Horwood Reserve, off Renown Road, at Baulkham Hills from 10am to 2pm.

Mayor Sonya Phillips will launch the Bushland Day at 10 am, followed by an Aboriginal Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony.

There will be interactive workshops and displays by local environment groups such as the Upper Parramatta River Catchment Trust, the Australian Plant Society and Sydney Water's Streamwatch program. A highlight will be a native wildlife display by Anthony Stimpson from Australian Wildlife Displays.

The Shire's Community Nursery will also be running a program of events about native plants and your garden, composting and other home based environmental initiatives.

Guided walks will be conducted through Bidjigal Reserve (formerly Excelsior Reserve), which is adjacent to Ted Horwood Reserve. This is a 300 hectare corridor of protected public bushland along Darling Mills Creek and its tributaries.

"This event is a must for residents who want to have a fun day out exploring their local natural and cultural heritage," Baulkham Hills Shire Council's Environment Officer, Sue Martin said.
