Summary
A multi faceted flood-retarding basin was built by
Holroyd City Council in 1999 in a park in the piped reaches of the
Domain Creek drainage line to protect 24 flood liable homes downstream
and improve water quality in the creek. Although it is not obvious
to a casual passer-by, the innovative basin also has an infiltration
medium and several litter and pollution traps to improve water quality
and an underground storage tank to retain stormwater for reuse in
the reserve.
The project was made possible with a grant of $360,000 from the
NSW Stormwater Trust, a contribution of $305,000 from this Trust
and $400,000 from Holroyd City Council.
