In 1995/96 the Trust asked the residents of the upper
Parramatta River catchment to help identify and agree upon water
quality goals, as well as a strategy to achieve these goals, as
part of the "Streamly Clean" project. Over 1100 residents
participated. The overwhelming response was that the catchment creeks
should be healthy enough to visit and to enjoy the plants and animals
that live in them and that Lake Parramatta should be clean enough
to swim in.
Other key findings were:
- 65% said water pollution was the most important environmental
issue;
- 89% are already starting to help improve the environment.
